Rachel grew up in Ogden, Utah and attended Weber State University as a Zoology major. While attending Weber she was also part of Army ROTC and was commissioned as an officer in the Medical Service Corps with the Utah National Guard upon graduation in 2006. During her service she deployed with the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) to Afghanistan. She was the only female officer and in charge of a Special Forces support unit. She is now a captain and a company commander, a position with a lot of responsibility for other soldiers and equipment. Her brother is also an Army officer and graduated from Weber as well. Rachel swore him in and reminds him that, no matter what, she will always out-rank him! Rachel is also a paratrooper and going to jump master school shortly!
Rachel is a post-bachelors student in biology at the University of Utah, ultimately planning on being a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She says she already has a 'petting zoo' with 2 alpacas, goats, and ducks on her farm! Rachel says she loves the "phenomenal support" she gets at the U from her fellow student Vets and the faculty. "My teachers are very approachable" she says. She also loves snowboarding and cooking and describes herself as a "voracious reader".
